We strongly believe in inspiring curiosity through architecture and learning across the globe. 14ft 8in began in 2009 while Jonathan was working on Seattle’s first shipping container building at a previous design-develop-build architecture studio as a medium for exploring, inspiring, and sharing creative architectural ideas. Growing to millions of annual views, it became a Top 10 site globally on Facebook visits for architecture. Fuel is needed for continued learning, growth, and inspiration, so this engine has resumed after pausing while Jonathan led, designed, and detailed Odin, a 300,000gsf building in Ballard start to finish at a previous urban mixed-use architecture studio, earned his National license and architect registration board certifications in 2013, and created this architecture studio in 2014. Our aim is to continue learning and exploring architecture and urbanization here at 14ft8in.com, share the ideas along this continued journey together, and publish a great book of these urban studies and architectural works.
Research and studies we have been working on include the urban growth of China’s Mountain City Chongqing and 2300 year old urban center Chengdu, the evolution and carved dwellings of Spain’s Setenil de las Bodegas, Berlin’s architectural transformation, high-density low-rise urbanism in France, ancient urbanization in Greece, Spain's dialogue of historic and contemporary architecture, Hong Kong's evolution of smart housing density and multi-modal transit systems, urban residential typologies and concepts in the Netherlands, Seoul's dense network of vibrant pedestrian streets, Denmark's architectural character and social public spaces, and the burgeoning sustainable eco-districts taking shape in Sweden. We apply these studies and lessons learned from architecture and urban growth around the world to the architecture we create with our team and clients. Imagination and determination form reality in this evolving world.
